Number 17 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

"Aspen"
9" x 12"
oil on Raymar canvasboard

I am calling this one Americana or Primitive style today.
I didn't paint with that intention, but that
is what seems to have played
out on the surface,
kind of flat.
And no matter what I did, the color mixing
was often MUD..meaning I wasn't mixing just
2 colors and introducing a complimentary in the mix.  Oy!

It's reeeeeallly windy here today and that always
plays havoc with my painting muse and psyche.

It actually drives me a little crazy.

Aspen is a Chesapeake Bay retriever who
belongs to my friend and past coworker, Kim.

Watercolor Sketch

My neighbor's foster puppy, Chance,
is sitting at the top of the stairs to our deck
when we lived in the mountains.
A watercolor sketch today - practice for a more finished one...
but the plan worked out.
I just need to paint it on actual watercolor paper,
not the back of matboard.
The tricky part of the scene was the deck and
the stair railings, now I know what I am
up against on those.
My perspective is a little off and I am feeling
where to adjust it
Need to move him over, as I ran out of room for
his great long tail.

Note to self: watercolor doesn't work very well on matboard, it soaks into the fiber
right away and will not spread with water.

Where I Stand Sunday and New Pastels

Just about ready to drop these crutches - maybe by tomorrow.
This isn't easy for me.
I have just a speck of faith in my muscles, which are being exercised several times a day.  PT is great - everyone should have PT in their life.
When I get all done with this rehab,
I hope to maintain a regimen of daily exercise which includes
bone and muscle strengthening.
This older body of mine, can't take another break like this one.
Tuesday I get to exercise in the Therapy POOL!!

Here is the finished pastel from last week.
"Along the Walkway - Atitlan Gardens"
(seems I like to name everything with the word 'sunshine' lately,
can you believe I was thinking in the "Atitlan Sunshine"?)
8" x 9"
pastel on Canson

I have a new 'grandpuppy' - Wally - who is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever
and lives in Colorado, so I haven't seen him yet.
From his photos he is a doll and a half and
seems to be growing like a weed.
I couldn't resist capturing his early puppyhood.
Dig those moss colored green eyes?

Where I Stand Sunday is an ongoing photo essay examining the different places I spend my life standing.
Too often we take for granted the everyday places we spend our lives walking on.
There are several others who also write this on Sunday, see sidebar.

Adventures in Pyrography

Last year about this time, I purchased a cheapo woodburning set and some little wood pieces and tried my hand at woodburning.  I made a few...
