Cygnus

"Cygnus" - 6" x 8" original oil on Raymar board

This painting looked like it would take no time at all,
but the white swan's feathers contained so many colors in the shadow.
I like the way the light filters through the edge of the neck and under the chin.
That's what I worked on the most, capturing that light on and through the feathers.
SOLD - collection in Portland, Oregon, thanks!

The swan just glows. You brush work is so expressive.

Pattie,

Wow! I have often been impressed with how you capture light so beautifully in your work. This swan is totally enchanting . . .

Patti, very skillful job on this beautiful swan. When I click on it, the picture gets blown up larger than life, and the strokes and colour still ring true. I don't know how much of a test that is, but I've noticed that a lot of weaknesses can become exposed through magnification. (personal experience)

You are so right, Vern! I hope people always check that way, because we work hard to make our paintings strong to the test! Sometimes, all I have to do is just photograph my painting, and I see areas that need tweaking, it amazes me that you don't see it with your critical eye, but the camera lens shows it by golly! Thanks for bringing up a good point! Happy New Year!
