Where I Stand for the Weekend

This year - one of my art goals is to 'change it up' a bit and expand outward beyond just painting - that's a big world in itself..but there is more.
More, because I have materials and supplies and equipment to DO more.

I have a great big, beautiful studio (or 'playroom' as my friend Jan calls it) and I can use it to do all those extra things..because I have more order and organization.  I recently signed up for an online sewing class called "A Journal and a Purse" with Carla Sonheim.  This is awakening something in me that has always been there..just put away for quite some time, my love of sitting in front of the sewing machine and creating with fabric and notions.

Just before moving to Kansas I was attending a lot of sewing conventions, collecting fabric, patterns, quilting equipment, ideas...I knew that I would have a place and some time to explore this world more than I had in the past.  Well, decided it was time to take time - haul the stuff out and just have fun with it. We are on week one of a three week online course.

Here is my first two attempts...just working on the cover outside and inside for now..the signatures and finishing will be next week I believe.
Journal One
This one was more planned and fussed over..you aren't supposed to take that much care about it.  So, I am trying more, and trying to get more spontaneous with the idea.

Journal 2
I like this one better.  These will both have inside pages and a ribbon to tie them shut when finished. The bags or purses we will be making is just what I need - a push to make several 'canvas and frame' sized ones, to cart my art around when I go change it at the coffee shop or travel with my art...something light to protect it from bouncing into the next one when I am transporting just a few.  Something I can carry with shoulder straps.  Can you tell I am excited?

Stay tuned. I will share these as they get finished in a few weeks.  Hopefully I will be able to make about 9 or 10 of them for now.
Where I Stand Sunday (or in this post, on the Weekend)
is an ongoing photo essay examining the different places I spend my life standing.
Too often we take for granted the everyday places we spend our lives walking on.

Ooooh, how exciting! Welcome to the world of fabric! Pretty soon you'll be ordering screens from Lynn and printing your own! Love the journal covers.

next thing you know you will be a knit wit Pattie.
Thanks for the comment on my art blog. Moose always are pretty docile seeming. But as I nemtioned there was no way I was going to go get him out for a more conventional photo. They are pretty cantankerous and big. It was funny that he was just making himself at home in that leanto-shed where they park machinery and vehicles. The hay wagon was just outside so he had that at his disposal.

Leann and Gary - There just isn't enough time in the days to do it all...while the fabric thing is fun and YES, Gary, I do knit AND crochet...one has to choose..I choose fine art/number ONE! I know how big those meeses are...and know that you don't mess with them.

Adventures in Pyrography

Last year about this time, I purchased a cheapo woodburning set and some little wood pieces and tried my hand at woodburning.  I made a few...
