Where There's Rain, There's Alot of Water

Duh...last time I posted on my blog about this - was in 2011.
We had about 3 1/2 inches of rain overnight on that occasion.
Yesterday and last night, we had over 5 inches of rain.
To a usually dry place, which is in a drought, this is so out of the ordinary
and often brings some added tasks after the fact -
on clean up and mending things.
Here is the little trickle of a creek at it's best,
 after a rain like this.

Just replaced some ceiling tiles in the studio last weekend,
that gather some roof leaking from time to time,
DH said those NEW tiles are ruined and
one is about to come down..so out to
the studio to remedy that one
and prepare for more
as there is more rain in the forecast for
the next three days.

From rags to riches...
a wheat field on the road above us
in elevation has not been planted
with wheat yet, We now have
lots of the enriched field earth
in our waterway!

Another Rude Awakening

This was part of our property during some flooding last June.

This is the same view today, usually dry land here, a lot more water, we live near a creek. You can look back to my late June blogs to see photos of that flood. There was a thunderstorm all night long, complete with thunder and lightning and today they are predicting snow, 40 mph winds...which are already going on.

The water is OVER the bridge , after receding a bit. This is our well head's little island. Yesterday we had an electrical fire in the wiring at that site. We were going to go back today and make it a better and cleaner connection, but can't get to it. Pump is OK for now.

We are hunkering down in the house getting ready for the impending weather.

No Place for Sissies

Well, this is the tornado that "clocked" Kearney, Nebraska (100 miles from here) last Thursday.

Thanks to NOAA, and our weather scanner and our weather radio (boy, are we prepared - or what?) we have determined that we are in for another evening of dodging the weather, hopefully. We are located in about the middle of the little box extending from the Nebraska border. Just got back from picking up some electric fencing supplies for the sweet corn...but I told the cashier, that depending on tonight's storm, we may be bringing it all back for a refund. Hopefully not. There is supposed to be baseball sized hail and 70 mph winds, flash flooding...don't know where the water will go, the ground is so saturated.
There is an old lake that was dried up in Smith Center, and it is now overflowing the spillway/dam.

This is a friend's husband looking over the road washout, here in the county. Guess a farmer came upon it, there was a haybale in the way, he got out of his truck to check it out and good thing, cause he would have gone right in the wash. Whew.
Speaking of farmers, we also get to play farmers for a couple of days with the chickens and the horse across the road. So, yes, we are prepping for tonight's "event", could start by sundown, don't know, we are to be under a "flash flood" warning until...get this...Saturday. Hmmm.
I CAN swim if I have to.

Adventures in Pyrography

Last year about this time, I purchased a cheapo woodburning set and some little wood pieces and tried my hand at woodburning.  I made a few...
