Number 17 in a 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge

"Japanese Bantam"
6" x 6"
oil on Raymar canvasboard
NFS

This is a painting of MY (1) rooster, Queenie.  He is a Banty Rooster, very comical and quite ditzy - but I suppose a lot of roosters are.  They have only two purposes, as I see it...to give morning and/or warning crows and to help with fertilization of the eggs (we collect each day's eggs so that isn't happening) - but we get a kick out of him just the same.
He is way smaller than my large Sussex hen
(painting of chick, a few days back is 'she'),
and she puts up a fight
every time he begins his 'love' dance.
Don't tell him - but he's a follower, not a leader....

Painting 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge - #12

"Future Egg Layer"
oil on Raymar plein air panel
5" x 7"
SOLD

My 3 chickens are almost 2 years old.  This little chick was GIVEN to me by my neighbor.  Little did he know at the time, what a life this chick would have.  She was just hatched when I took the photo I used here, standing in the little box we set up - in the pine shavings.  She grew into a beautiful hen - a Speckled Sussex...lays big brown eggs and is such a character.
Her name is Harlough.

Just a Beautiful Day - Anyway You Look at It

Today, was the first day in a VERY, VERY long time, that we could be outside and enjoy the acreage we live on in Kansas.  I got some important varnishing done in the studio today.   We worked on the 1950 'ton and a half' truck's brake system (got a new hydrovac), took a ride down country roads in the said truck, went to the farm across our road to see some of the animals...collect some eggs...
and just sit in the sun and take a walk in the woods! What a wonderful and lovely day!
Ahhh...but look out some more weather is due this weekend.
Darned!  I am so done with winter - aren't you????
This is Doc, who belongs to Natasha my neighbor.  We like to visit him - he is a gentle guy.
This is one of the three current farm cats - we don't have cats, but love 'em all the same.

WORKSPACE

Messy as it is, this is where I do my art. We repurposed a very large metal farm equipment building into 3 - 'alike in size' spaces. The first is a 2 car garage; the middle one is my heated studio - 33' x 24' with great north light. Because we insulated it so well, it seems to be cool in warmer weather; the end part of this building is a workshop for hubbie, where he does all HIS STUFF. I am very happy to have such a big space to house all the things that I like to do, and it's all in one place. It's even big enough for the wiener dogs to do their "racing". LOL!! This building is part of the reason we located here, in the middle of nowhere. It's extremely peaceful!

Adventures in Pyrography

Last year about this time, I purchased a cheapo woodburning set and some little wood pieces and tried my hand at woodburning.  I made a few...
