New York Stock Exchange 'Challenge'

..and a challenge it was. This (2) week's Different Strokes from Different Folks photo was one of Karin's shots from inside the NYSE. I used acrylic paints on a 6" x 12" stretched canvas, and painted it really quickly. I don't like the final outcome, although as always - I learned something from doing it. Karin reminded us, it's just a 'glimpse' in time. I got sort of hung up on the background, and not so much on the foreground...which it's really supposed to be the reverse. I also know you shouldn't really rely so heavily on a photo, unless of course you using one for an extreme portrait likeness. The source photo itself was hard to enlarge. It went pixelated, so I couldn't see any detail. Knowing her a little, I guess that's the way she wanted it..."always remember to squint", well squint it was - once you tried to see details.
Click on "Different Strokes from Different Folks" site on the sidebar, although Karin is out of town right now, or supposed to be.
Just an FYI - I have painted or drawn the last 8 days in a row. It feels so good, just the way it should (ha ha)!

That's a good likeness. I think that's the guy that got all my money. :( He's stepping out.

First of all, that guy is an awesome painter! I am glad that critic didn't like his work!

Hey Mark, the more I look at it, that "guy" in my painting is starting to look like J Mc. :-{

Pattie I have yet to attempt this challenge of Karin's. I was a bit overwhelmed by it. Yours has turned out very well. I may give it a go this weekend.

Boy that video is something else. Brave artist - excellent artist!

BTW - I love the popup comment box ;-)

Karen, I agree, that artist rocks! Have you seen his Disney backgrounds on his site? Wow! Yes, I almost didn't do this one, but I thought "Just Do It!" and said "No Fear!" and yelled "Bonzai!!" :-) I can see that a lot of others may have hesitated, comparing it to the number that painted the other ones.
So hope to see yours soon!

Yelling "Bonzai!!" - I'm gonna have add that to my routine... I really like how you thought of putting the warm reds and pinks on the floor as well as surrounding the figures... It makes me think that it's Glowing Hot from all that commotion. Very Nice!

Thanks Alice. I originally used a canvas tinted red, and then did my lay out in gold acrylic, just messin around, so there is a little gold around those guys...like they ARE glowing hot, with all the 'heat' they have put on us, so are we, eh?

Adventures in Pyrography

 Last year about this time, I purchased a cheapo woodburning set and some little wood pieces and tried my hand at woodburning.  I made a few...
