To Catch a Predator

Hubster bought a 'night camera' - and recently we have found parts of deer on our landscape which seem to be devoured by something a little larger than coyotes - I am predicting.  So we got the camera installed on a tree by the pond and caught this deer hanging around at about 11:00, again at 1:00 and again at 5:00...nothing else last night, but we will be vigilant and see what else we get in the nights ahead.  Rained last night, so no harvest today.
Interestingly, I heard of a nearby night camera catching no less than a "wiener dog" as one of their night visitors.  Can you imagine?  Beware of "Dachshunds in the Night"!! (and no, I don't think a doxie could tear apart a deer like we have seen...or could they??)

could it have been a bear?

I don't think it could have been a bear - as they need woods and woodland habitats - the best we have are little treed areas along creeks - like ours - we are pretty much open prairie and grassland. There has been a mountain lion sighted north of here...could be that or could be a big bobcat, I suppose, but the ones we see are small. I think the deer parts we found were from a fairly young deer...foot was pretty small. Scary thing was, it was freshly killed...still limp and warmish. Wanted to put my 'explorer' hat on and venture further into the trees and brush to find more...but I thought perhaps I might come upon whatever it was.

We have put one of those cameras up by our cabin, and have been surprised at all of the wildlife we have seen, including coyotes. Hope you find out what is killing the deer.

Adventures in Pyrography

Last year about this time, I purchased a cheapo woodburning set and some little wood pieces and tried my hand at woodburning.  I made a few...
