Work In Progress
I have tried a portrait from this same photo before - in watercolor - wasn't very successful with it. This one is pastel. My dogs are on the couch in the RV..with this incredible late afternoon light coming through the window. Although I usually work dark to light as in oil painting, I put down some of the light as a reminder - so I can 'make it happen' the way I want it. There are no rules these days, just what I feel.
Animal and people eyes always go in right away..placement is key.
Because it is a complex scene - with the blanket folds and legs and head placements, I started with a center point vertically and horizontally...a crosshair - if you would.
Stay tuned - I will try to get a camera shot each time I am at the easel on this one.

You are great with pastels too, I have played with them a few times and it was sad, lol. Love all of these and the new one with the dogs, wow!
oh my Pattie, this is an incredible beginning! i love that you dashed in the lights first. i can't help myself, i seem to always do that. cannot wait to see this progress. it's going to be wonderful!
and Sunset Clouds and Highway are lovely!! Beautifully done!
That's the key Barb - keep on 'playin' they were my first love when I was about 12. I am extremely comfortable with them. Recently bought a great mask to wear as they have started to bother my breathing...reactive airway to so many things these days. So - I am loving them again. Thanks Suzanne - right about not helping ourselves especially when the focus is the LIGHT and getting it going. Thanks for your comments and stopping by..my blog seems to be in a waning state - due to my NON posting status these days - hope to change that.
