30 in 30 - Day 5

"Mad Cat"
6" x 8"
oil on canvasboard

This one and Day 4's were painted with a very limited palette.  I decided NOT to lay out so many colors - those blobs dry up if they aren't used in a few plus this is a challenge right?  What better way to challenge then to try to mix colors with 4 or 6 paint dobs.
I love mixing to get purple,
you can get some really great hues of it.
I call this 'mad cat' because his ears were looking like he was perturbed.
His name is Tucker and he has this big mane like a lion - he is a big and fat cat.

Pattie, You really captured Tucker's mad face. Awesome! I've really enjoyed looking at what everyone is posting for the challenge...

Love your color choices here and the way the light moves across his face Pattie...and I'm not even a cat person!

Thanks Maria and Dana - Dana that is exactly what attracted me to this particular photo and then paint surface. I love it when a photo yells at you!

What a great painting of Tucker! He reminds me of my kitty Buddy.

Thanks Sherri - this cat used to live in Kansas City...they would shave him to look like a lion in summer, he had so much fur. He would have a ball at the end of his tail and a lion's mane...outrageous!

Love, love the expression on Tucker's face and the great way you have depicted his fur. I also love the background as purple is my favorite color! I painted a cat yesterday too.... but like yours better because of Tuckers expression!

Thanks Susan and Suzanne - hey...I have just finished today's painting and am so excited - this has been quite a shot in the arm for me. I realize that this past year I have been sort of OFF the radar with my ankle injury, wah wah..., but I feel like I am reborn these past few days! I appreciate your comments - they hit the spot!

HI Pattie, thanks for stopping by my blog. Your cat portrait makes me think of the famous "Lola" featured on the Aunt Peaches blog. They could be twins.

I love your brushwork! And beautiful colors! It's so much fun discovering other artist's work, one of the things I like about this challenge.

Wonderful. I find myself leaning in towards my monitor because I feel like he wants to tell me something.

What a lovely cat.

Thanks Liz, Cheryl, Kristy and Sylviane!
If this cat could speak, he would say he was amazed at the number of comments here. He is a sweet boy. I am enjoying meeting so many (new to me) artists. The world is alive and wired for paint slinging this month it seems!
